Uh Oh Bango's sweet retreat
February 25, 2010

Since finishing second in the Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs on December 4, the Arizona-bred Kentucky Derby hopeful Uh Oh Bango, a son of Top Hit, has been enjoying winter at owner/trainer Triple AAA Ranch in Arizona. His trainer, Kory Owens, lives nearby, and Turf Paradise is open for both morning and afternoon action, so this is merely a working vacation for Uh Oh Bango.
The horse debuted at Prairie Meadows, winning a 5-furlong sprint by eight lengths. His runner-up effort to Grand Slam Andre in the Clever Trevor at Remington Park and winning the 6-furlong Prairie Meadows Freshman by 10 ½ lengths started the Derby chatter.
The Delta Jackpot finish saw "Bango" a neck behind Rule--and this was the Arizona-bred's first trip around two turns.
Now he's had some R&R and he's back on the Derby trail. Trainer Owens expected him to arrive at Oaklawn Park this week to get serious about a March 13 return to competition in the $300,00 Rebel Stakes. If that race goes well, the march to Louisville will continue with an appearance in the Arkansas Derby, scheduled for Saturday, April 10--just three short weeks from "The Thrill at the 'Hill"!
