PORTLAND MEADOWS — Joe Crispin completed his assault on Gary Stevens's Thoroughbred riding record in his first attempt of the day, aboard 3-to-5 shot Lady Boswell in today's fourth race. The win was Crispin's 127th of the 2006-07 meet, bettering Stevens's record 126 wins during the 1983-84 season.

Trained by Debbie Van Horne and owned by Shonda Van Horne, Lady Boswell won her second straight since arriving from Turf Paradise in February. Joe Crispin was aboard for both wins.

Crispin won on two more Thoroughbreds before sunset—Make the Deal in the fifth race and Destined for Drama in the eleventh—to put some daylight between his new record and the old record.

With 16 race days remaining in the season, Crispin is poised to obliterate the previous record. At his current rate, Crispin should win 164 races on Thoroughbreds by the last race of the season, on May 5.

Racing continues at Portland Meadows every Monday and Tuesday through May 1, with a special Saturday, Kentucky Derby Day, race card on May 5. First post all days is 12:35.
