Crispin watch: Chasing a record

February 10, 2007     E-mail this page to a friend!

Jockey Joe Crispin has a mount in every event on Sundayís nine-race card when racing resumes at Portland Meadows, and with only one quarter horse race scheduled, he has eight more shots to close in on the trackís Thoroughbred-win record.

Heís setting a hot pace. But Crispin, who is pursuing Gary Stevensís record of winning 126 Thoroughbred races in a season, actually has more than two full months of racing action left in the Portland Meadows 2006-2007 season to inscribe his name in the history books.

Barring bad racing luck and injury, Crispin has a fantastic chance to set a new record during the meet, which is currently scheduled to continue through May 5.

The Racing Journal will sit down with Crispin today, Saturday, February 10, to discuss his pursuit of this significant record. Visit our website throughout the Portland Meadows season to stay apprised of Crispinís successes on his way to establishing a new Northwest record, and watch for the March issue of the magazine to learn more about this veteran rider.
