The 57th racing season at Los Alamitos opens on Thursday night with all overnight races for non-maiden Quarter Horses, ages 3 and up, benefiting from a $1,000 purse increase effective immediately. The higher purses will continue throughout the winter months said Los Alamitos Racing Secretary Ron Church.

"Coming off a record meet in 2006, we're determined more than ever to begin the new season in the best way possible," said Church. "We hope that our horsemen and trainers will take advantage right away of our higher purses."

Open allowance races will now feature a purse of $17,700. Conditioned allowance races will have a $16,700 purse. At the high claiming levels, $30,000 claimers will have $14,700 good reasons to race during the winter months, while $20,000 claimers will compete for $13,800. In the mid-claiming levels, $10,000 claimers will race for $11,700 while $7,500 claimers will race for $10,600. In the lower levels, $3,200 claimers will see action for a nice purse of $8,600 while $2,000 claimers will run for $8,000.

Among the upcoming highlights for 2007 will be the Champion of Champions now featuring a guaranteed $1 million purse, making it the sport's only race for older horses with a seven-figure purse. This gives Los Alamitos a national record of four races worth over $1 million dollars.
