Average Up by 15.6% for CTHS Winter Mixed Sale

Rexdale, ON – December 3, 2006 – The CTHS Winter Mixed Sale, held at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Ontario, concluded its one-day session on December 2nd with a 15.6% increase in gross sales.

Buyers from across Canada, the U.S. and as far as Jamaica, braved the cold to view the 181 horses catalogued, resulting in 125 sold for a total gross of $592,500 - a 15.6% increase over last year. This year’s sale average was $4,740, indicating a 17.5% increase in average over last year’s sale.

Noble Heart, a Swain-Green Noble mare in foal to Bold Executive, Canada’s leading sire, brought the highest bid, purchased for $35,000 by F. and C. Russo of Willowdale, Ontario. The bay mare was consigned by the Hill ‘N’ Dale Sales Agency, as Agent.

Two broodmares consigned by Shannondoe Farm, Agent, went for $27,000 each to purchaser Windways Farm Limited. One is a High Brite-Votre Bien Devouee mare in foal to Touch Gold, and the other, is a Matter of Honor-Betrothal mare, in foal to Five Star Day.

In the yearling portion of the sale, a dark bay filly by Deputy Commander out of Ice Tie sold for $22,000 by consignor Hill ‘N’ Dale Sales Agency, Agent to purchaser UN Stable of Milton, Ontario.

“It was business as usual – the good horses sold quite well,” said Ryan Mahan, lead auctioneer of Ryan Mahan & Associates from Kentucky. “It’s always a pleasure to come up here to Canada and experience the enthusiasm from the buyers and breeders.”

Also included in the sale was a toy horse donated by Bit By Bit Custom Equine, which was purchased by Michael DePaulo for $500, the proceeds of which went to the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society and the Woodbine Backstretch 11th Annual Toy Drive.
