Portland, OR - Since claiming Tall Pines, owner David T. Green and the Just Horsen Around Stable have enjoyed as much success as a team of owners could hope for.

Purchased for $10,000 out of a claiming event toward the end of the Emerald Downs race meeting, the 4-year-old filly by Pine Bluff was claimed by Green and Just Horsen Around for one purpose to run in the money races, particularly stakes events where the purses have doubled from last year.

Shes nice, this filly, Green said after her third victory in as many starts since the claim. I have been so fortunate to be a part of the success of this horse.

Trained by Jim Fergason and ridden by Joe Crispin, Tall Pines was sent from the start in an Invitational Handicap worth $8,100 on November 26 and was a winner at every pole through opening fractions of 24 seconds and 47 4/5 seconds through the half.

I didnt have to work too hard, Crispin said after the victory. I just flagged her a bit down the lane. A lot of times if a horse sees the whip, its just as good as going the whole nine yards.

Edging clear from Chancy Chancy, who tracked the leader through three-quarters of a mile, Tall Pines was a pair of lengths in front, then opened up to a four-length advantage through the lane.

Maintaining that advantage, she crossed the wire and stopped the clock at 1:39 4/5, winning her second Invitational Handicap of the season.

Tall Pines won the Diane Kem Handicap on October 15, then returned to win an Invitational Handicap on November 6. This win gives Green and Just Horsen Around their third victory with one second place finish and one third place finish from six starts.

The filly improved her career record to 7-3-7 from 28 starts and increased her career earnings to $74,600.

At the Delta Park oval, she is 3-0-0 from three starts with $21,121 in earnings more than twice what she was claimed for.

Tall Pines paid $2.60 and $2.10. There was no show wagering. Chancy Chancy was game in her effort yet no match for the winner, holding second to return $4.60.

Fettles Klan, My Emy My Amy, Foxy Jenny and Wice O Kat completed the field.
