Poster Horse raffled at Prairie Meadows, Saturday, July 31

ĎRocketí is the nickname for this yearís poster horse honoree associated with Race 1 on Saturday, July 31 at Prairie Meadows. The race is the first on the card beginning at 6:15 p.m. [CDT], named on behalf of The Pony Express Riders of Iowa. The race dedication represents the organizationís work this year across this state as part of its ongoing mission over the past thirty years in support of Easter Sealsí Camp Sunnyside.

The Pony Express Riders of Iowa will sell $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win Rocket, who will make a special guest appearance in a corral just north of the track apron. CW Rocket Bar is the official name for the 4-year-old red roan gelding that stands 14.3 hands high, registered with the American Quarter Horse Association.
Rocket has been on display in his travels at rodeos and county fairs throughout Iowa this summer, and will end his tour in this yearís Sesquicentennial Iowa State Fair parade on Wednesday, August 11.

The winning raffle ticket on Rocket will be drawn at noon on August 22 in the Stockmanís Inn on closing day of the Fair. The winner can opt for a $2,000 cash award. The event organizer is Charlie Scarlett, whose name has long been associated with this annual event. Rocketís feed has been donated by Prairie Land Cooperative, Hubbard, Iowa.
