Los Alamitos Race Course, Cypress, CA (Nov. 5) Jess You And I You And I won it for Jens. It's been 10 years since the passing of noted California breeder Jens L. List Jr. but his legacy in Quarter Horse racing lives on through his Double Bar S Ranch.

Now operated by wife Sharon and his daughters Rhonda and Dawn List, the Double Bar S Ranch enjoyed its richest night ever after Jess You And I posted a stakes record victory while defeating Blue Girl Too, FDD Dynasty and six other freshman standouts in California's richest race so far this year - the $1,223,800 Golden State Million Futurity Saturday, Nov. 4, at Los Alamitos.

"This one is for Papa," said Dawn List. "Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He would have been 67 years old. He was too young when he passed away. He was only 57. It's been 10 years since he died so we thought about him all day long yesterday. This one was for him."

The Double Bar S Ranch has now won the last three futurities held at Los Alamitos this year. Tac It Like A Man dead-heated for the win in the $418,000 Governor's Cup Futurity on June 29 before giving the Moreno Valley-based ranch a victory in the $450,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity on October 7.

Sent off as the second choice in the wagering at 5-2 odds, Jess You And I banked $495,096 for this win to give Double Bar S Ranch earnings of more than $1.12 million for the year.

Ridden by J.R. Ramirez from the outside post nine for trainer Jaime Gomez, Jess You And I covered the 400 yards in :19.37 on the way to spoiling FDD Dynasty's bid to win the $1 million Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza, which serves as the track's version of the Triple Crown. FDD Dynasty, the 3-2 favorite here, was looking to become the first horse to win the Bonanza since the program's inception in 1998. Fastest qualifier Magical Latin Lover was scratched before the start of the racing program because of an injured knee.

Bred by Double Bar S Ranch, Jess You And I's winning time is 5/100ths of a second faster than the previous stakes record posted by Ocean Runaway in 2004. Jess You And I remained undefeated after four career starts and his career earnings now stand at $506,646. Sired by Feature Mr Jess and out of the Tolltac mare Gold Daze, the bay gelding also holds the 300-yard track record for a 2-year-old in addition to this stakes record.

Ironically, the idea of breeding Gold Daze with Feature Mr Jess was first received with skepticism by some at the Double Bar S Ranch.

"Mike Stuart, who is our equine consultant, is the one that wanted to breed Gold Daze to Feature Mr Jess," Dawn List said. "We thought he was crazy at the time. When I saw that on the list I remember (exclaiming) 'Feature Mr Jess?' But Mike knew what he was doing. He has been our consultant ever since we lost dad. He is a great friend and we adore him."

Double Bar S Ranch also has a lot of love for Mr. Gomez. The trainer knew from day one that he had a special athlete in Jess You And I.

"I believe he is the fastest horse that I've ever touched," Gomez said. "And I said this before his maiden start. He has not made a liar out of me. I still don't know how fast he is. He ran faster than Wave Carver's winning time of (:19.58) in the Los Alamitos Super Derby, so that tells you about his talent. He set a track record earlier this year and now he's beaten a field with some of the toughest horses around. What else can I ask from Jess You And I?"
