Hastings Entertainment, Inc. (Oct. 24) - For the first time in 22 years, the Breedersí Cup World Championships will not be broadcast in Canada on network television.

ESPN has secured the rights to televise the Nov. 4 races from Churchill Downs in the United States but ESPNís carrier in Canada - TSN - has a previous programming commitment so only HPItv and TSN High Definition channel will carry the eight-race card from Louisville, Kentucky.

Both Hastings Racecourse and Fraser Downs will be showing live simulcast coverage of the most popular thoroughbred race day of the year as well as the race books at River Rock and Boulevard casinos. The regular TBC Teletheatre outlets throughout British Columbia will also be carrying the races through the Churchill Downs decoders.

As a courtesy to our local patrons, it is advised that you check with your cable or satellite service provider to determine the availability and pricing of HPItv and HPItv International. To receive TSN High Definition, customers must have an HD capable television set with an HD cable box or satellite receiver.

The option is to spend the day at Hastings, Fraser Downs or the racing books mentioned earlier. The Breedersí Cup program (PST) begins with the Juvenile Fillies at 9:30 a.m.; the Juvenile (colts and geldings) at 10:10 a.m.; the Fillies & Mare Turf at 10:55 a.m.; the Sprint at 11:35 a.m.; the Mile at 12:15 noon; the Distaff at 12:55 p.m.; the Turf Contenders at 1:35 p.m. and the 2006 Breedersí Cup $5 million Classic at 2:20 p.m.

Doors open at Hastings at 7:45 a.m. and Fraser Downs open 24 hours.
