New Tote Board shines bright in high Trifecta payout

Portland, OR (Oct. 23) – One of the numerous improvements made prior to the 2006-07 race meet at Portland Meadows was the complete refurbishing of the infield totalisator board.

On Monday, it sparkled brighter than it ever has with numerous longshots winning, several finishing right behind the winner and setting a mark for highest Trifecta payout of the meet to date.

n the first three races on the day, big Classic Royal Perks returned $17.00 for the win, a neck ahead of Devilish Diva who returned $26.80 to place.

In race two, Cb Bullion paid $16.60 for his win, a length and a quarter ahead of Power N Fast who resulted in a $14.80 place payoff.

Then, in the day’s third event with the favorite finishing last in a field of nine, jockey Javier Ortega guided 33-1 shot Rj Bug N Me to a three-quarter length victory to return $68.20 over the 14-1 Ya Beda Reboot who narrowly edged Jts Knockout at 39-1.

The result?

A meet high Trifecta which sparkled a $10,496 return for a $1 wager.

Four races later, rider Mark Hadley led Roman Governor to a neck victory to pay $62.40.
Average win price for the day was a healthy $21.90.

FOOTNOTES: Rider Clark Jones had a hat trick on the day, posting three wins to give him 12 for the meet. He began with the second race and Cb Bullion to pay $16.60. He then scored on the race favorite in the fourth aboard Count Drac, then sealed the day winning the nightcap, also on the race favorite.

Leading trainer Jim Fergason added two more wins on Monday, capturing the fourth race with Count Drac and the eighth race with Wegota Play, giving him 11 through eight days of racing.
