Jason Beem named new announcer at Portland Meadows

Portland Meadows enthusiastically welcomes Jason Beem to the announcer’s booth. Michael O’Brien, the voice of the Delta Park oval for the past five seasons, has taken a sabbatical for the meet in order to tend to responsibilities of his year-round business.

Beem called a small handful of races here last year before being scooped up by River Downs for their 2006 summer meet.
Regarded highly as a rising star in the industry, Beem is a fresh voice with an unbridled and uncompromised enthusiasm for the sport of horse racing.

“I'm so thrilled for this opportunity to call at a track I’ve been going to since I was a kid,” Beem said. “My dad used to take me down there for short weekend trips. In fact, up until about the age 15 I never made it past that exit off the highway. We never did make it to downtown, Portland. I figured that (the area surrounding the track) was downtown Portland.”

“We are fortunate in having Jason put on the microphone in Mike’s absence,” said General Manager Dwayne Yuzik. “Jason excelled at River Downs this past summer and we’re certain he’ll bring the same level of professionalism, accuracy and consistency here.”
You can hear Beem’s race calls every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons with a first post of 12:35 p.m.
