Handicap finalists at Prairie Meadows will win trip to Las Vegas

Altoona, IA- The top three finalists from the fifth annual 2004 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship Qualifying Tournament at Prairie Meadows on July 24 will win round-trip airfare to Las Vegas and hotel accommodations to next January's Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship.

Entrants meet Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. [CDT] for the Qualifying Tournament in Horseshoes on the fourth floor of the Prairie Meadows Clubhouse. Interest reached an all-time high for this year's tournament, as Prairie Meadows has already notified each pre-registered handicapper by written confirmation that included a list of Tournament rules.

Saturday's DRF/NTRA Tournament consists of 15 races overall including five Thoroughbred simulcast races prior to the Prairie Meadows card. In addition, handicappers will try their skills at six (6) Thoroughbred races on the Prairie Meadows card plus four (4) additional races from any of the four Prairie Meadows American Quarter Horse races, or pre-selected alternative simulcast Thoroughbred races.

The first race of the contest is tentatively scheduled to go off around 4:00 p.m. [CDT] as one of the five non-Prairie Meadows races before live racing begins at 6:15 p.m.

Handicappers will be asked to place $2 mythical win and place wagers on the 15 contest races.

All entry fees for the Prairie Meadows Qualifying Tournament will be distributed to the top 10 participants as follows: 25% to the top qualifier, 20% to the second qualifier, 15% to the third qualifier, 10% to the fourth qualifier. Handicappers finishing fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth will receive 5% of the entry fees.

The official Prairie Meadows website will post the final listing of the on-Prairie Meadows races after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Tournament winners will be notified by telephone and official contest results will be posted on the Prairie Meadows website on as soon as the results become available following the Tournament on July 24.

In 2003, more than 50,000 racing fans entered the Championship qualifying contests with 260 finalists qualifying for a trip to Las Vegas for a shot at the $100,000 Grand Prize.

Last year's Prairie Meadows qualifiers earning a spot in January's Las Vegas handicapping showdown were Patrick Lamoreaux, Jr., James Jarvis, Mark Brumm, and Suzanne Nadermann.
