Auburn, WA (September 24) - Melba Jewel won her second race of the season in the Sunday feature at Emerald Downs.

Ricky Frazier rode the 5-year-old daughter of Cahill Road, trained by Frank Lucarelli, out of the third post in the 6-furlong $20,000 claiming race.

Bold Tizzy and Thatsthewayluvgoes battled for the lead out of the gate with Bold Tizzy moving to the front and setting speedy fractions of 21 2/5 seconds in the quarter mile and 44 3/5 in the half mile.

"I knew the one and two (Thatsthewayluvgoes and Bold Tizzy) would rock and roll," Frazier said. "I took Melba Jewel back, but I didn't want to give her too much to do."
Melba stalked the leaders through the far turn and moved within striking distance in the lane.

"This one set up and ran just the way we had hoped," Lucarelli said. "When I saw Bold Tizzy out there I started to worry, but when I saw the (time) I thought it might come back."

Down the stretch Melba Jewel took the lead and drew off by nearly three lengths at the wire stopping the clock in 1:10.

Melba Jewel improved her record to 4-7-7 from 30 starts lifetime and paid $4.80, $3 $2.10.

Beautify ran second paying $5.40 and $2.40, while Bold Tizzy returned $2.10 for third.

Frazier and Lucarelli completed a remarkable winning streak during the past four race days with the jockey winning 13 and the trainer seven.

The streak of victories for Frazier sent him eight wins ahead of Kevin Krigger for leading rider. Frazier has 82 victories and Krigger 74 with four race days left in the 2006 season.

Lucarelli's seven trips to the winner's circle gave him a 12-win advantage over Howard Belvoir. Lucarelli has 49 victories for the season and Belvoir 37 in the leading trainer race.

The final day of racing for the 2006 season, the 10th anniversary of Emerald Downs, is Oct. 1.
