Yellowstone Downs to hold three-day final weekend

Cold, wet temperatures soaked the Billings, Montana area over last weekend, September 16 and 17, causing Yellowstone Downs to cancel those two days of live racing. Much of the state experienced heavy, wet snow showers, with light accumulations at higher elevations.

The track added Friday evening racing for this weekend’s racing finale. Post time on Friday in 4:30 p.m. Twelve races are carded for Friday, September 22, with as many expected for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday and Sunday post time will be 1:30 p.m.

This weekend the track is hosting stakes races for Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses and Paints. There was no shortage of good jockeys for the upcoming weekend.

An illustrious group of ineteen jockeys were on hand for closing weekend. On hand were Zack Bacon, Terry Bennett, Tony Bennett, Chad Benjamin, Terrence Birdrattler, Jesse Chavis, Katie Coscriff, Kim Espy, Fernando Gamez, Joe Holmes Sr., Joe Holmes Jr., Tommy Jones, Dan Kistler, Shaunda Larsen, Darnell Not Afraid, Jake Olesiak, Cammie Papineau, Don Proctor, and Steve Renteria.

Antonio Perez and Gilbert Rivera are unable to ride due to injuries. Earlier in the season, Brian Connelly, Ty Dangerfield and Ivan Ortiz were on the jockey roster also.
