by Michael Costanzo
The Seattles Best Joe Memorial Marathon Series continues on Friday night at Emerald Downs as a compact field of five has been assembled for the second leg, held at the distance of 1 miles. Itstufftobegood, last year's winner of the marathon series, makes his first local start of the season and will head to the post as the 7-5 morning-line favorite.

A winner in seven of eight starts at Emerald Downs, Itstufftobegood rattled off six straight wins in Auburn to close out his 2005 campaign. The 5-year-old son of Soft Gold has since competed at Golden Gate Fields, Zia Park, and Turf Paradise, where he won the $25,000 Bob Weems Memorial Stakes in March. He exits a fifth-place performance in the $40,000 Wildcat Handicap when competing over turf course in Phoenix.

Alcres George, the third-place finisher in leg one of the marathon series, returns for Friday night's event. The son of Lake George has won four of 10 starts this year, including the $50,000 Hasta La Vista Handicap on the grass course at Turf Paradise. Winless in both of his local appearances this year, the Joy Toye trained gelding has hit the board in each of his last nine outings.

Trainer Howard Belvoir has entered Big Hero in the Friday feature. The son of Partner's Hero is a two-time winner at the 2006 Emerald Downs meet, most recently scoring in a $10,000 claiming event when stretched out to a mile in his last.

The Seattles Best Joe Memorial Marathon Series is restricted to 3-year-olds and up that have started for a claiming price of $10,000 or less. The series began on July 14 with a nine-furlong event, continues with the Friday night feature, before concluding on August 27 with a 1 -mile contest.

Throughout the marathon series, horses earn six points for a win, four points for second, two points for third and one point for starting in a series event. Point totals for the final event on August 27 will be doubled in value. After the final series event, the horse that has accumulated the most points will be crowned champion.
