Trainers Jon Arnett and John Hammes Capture 5 Wins in a Single Day This Weekend at Arapahoe Park

Aurora, Colorado Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses had big days at Arapahoe Park over the weekend and a pair of training records were equalled. On the thoroughbred side, trainer Jon Arnett captured 5 of 9 races on the Monday program and narrowly missed in the nightcap. On the Quarter Horse side trainer John Hammes captured five victories during Saturdays Trial Day.

Arnett began the Monday program by sending Twist of Mint ($3.40) to post and he began the parade of winners. Arnett would capture the third with Stranger ($4.80), fourth with A. J.s Keeper ($15.80), fifth with Miss Freedom ($7.80) and seventh with Madame Rose ($10.80). He had an opportunity to break the track record with Bennys Tune in the nightcap but the seven-year-old gelding could not finish and checked in fourth.

On Saturday, trainer John Hammes recorded five wins as well. He began his day with first-time starter Right Bac to Ya ($10.60) in the third race, the first of the six Cherry Creek Futurity Trials. He also recorded wins in race five with Mekita ($9.60) and race six with Whisperin Spirit ($8.00). He also recorded wins in race nine, the Lucille Rowe Derby Trials, with Whos Kissin Who ($9.00) and closed out with Danika ($9.00) in race ten. Both Mekita and Danika ran the fastest times in their respective trials and are the early favorites for the $87,000 Cherry Creek Futurity Final and $53,000 Lucille Rowe Derby Final on July 1st.

Arapahoe Park will conduct a thirty-nine (39) day race meet beginning on Saturday June 10, 2006. Racing will be conducted on a three-day per week schedule (Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays) and the meet will conclude on Labor Day, September 4, 2006. A special July 4th holiday card will be run on the Tuesday holiday. Post time for all racing days is set for 1:00 p.m. mt.
