Cherry Creek Futurity-Lucille Rowe Derby Trials and Fatherís Day Highlight Arapahoe Park Weekend

Aurora, Colorado Ė Coloradoís finest quarterhorses will contest Trials this Saturday to determine the top ten starters for the $75,000 estimated Cherry Creek Futurity and the $65,000 Lucille Rowe Derby. On Sunday, the Aurora oval will have its annual Fatherís Day giveaway, typically one of the highest attended days throughout the thirty-nine (39) day summer meeting. On Saturdayís undercard, trials will also be held for Paint Horses and Appaloosas for the Western Stakes Futurity. Post Time for the weekends race cards is at 1:00 pm mt.

FiftyĖtwo (52) Colorado-bred two-year-olds will head to post in races 3-8 in the Cherry Creek Futurity Trials. The top ten fastest times at the 330 yard distance will qualify for the $75,000 estimated Final on July 1st. Forty percent of the starters will be making their career debuts in the Trials. Of those that have raced, I Bee Phia (race 3), Special Lady Olene (race 4), Mekita (race 5), Whisperin Spirit (race 6), Dolls Streaker (race 7) and In the Crease (race 8) have been established as morning line favorites.

Twenty-eight (28) Colorado-bred three-year-olds will head to post in races 9-11 in the Lucille Rowe Derby Trials. The top ten fastest times at the 350 yard distance will qualify for the $65,000 estimated Final, also to be held on July 1st. Headlining the field is Stanley Ryleís Kick Em In the Buds (9-5 morning line favorite in race 10). The son of Strawflyin Buds has captured four of his seven lifetime starts with two seconds to his credit as well. He has amassed earnings of over $73,000. He has three wins over the Arapahoe Park oval including a win in the 2005 Cherry Creek Futurity. The Chris Gandarilla trainee also has an impressive second to his credit in the 2005 Mile High Futurity. Russell Vicchrilli will return in the irons on the race favorite.

Following the Trials on Saturday the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association will sponsor itís annual Steak Cookout. For just a $5.00 bill, guests will receive steak, baked beans, salad, roll and a soft drink. Tickets are available at the Colorado Horse Association Office or from the Horsemenís Bookkeeper.

Also this weekend at Arapahoe Park is the annual Fatherís Day Promotion. One of the top attendance days of the season offers a full day of racing activities and promotions geared to dad. All dadís in attendance receive free general admission. In addition, the first 1,000 dads through the turnstiles will receive a free Mile High Racing and Entertainment keychain. A special Fatherís Day buffet will be held in the Directorís room and discounts are available for all dads.

On Saturday, seventeen (17) two-year-old Paint Horses and Appaloosas will race in the Western States Futurity Trials. As in the quarterhorse Trials, the top ten (10) fastest times will qualify for the $9,000 estimated Final to also be held on July 1st. The Western Stakes Futurity is one of three races on the 2006 stakes schedule for Paint/Appaloosas/Arabian Horses.

Arapahoe Park will conduct a thirty-nine (39) day race meet beginning on Saturday June 10, 2006. Racing will be conducted on a three-day per week schedule (Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays) and the meet will conclude on Labor Day, September 4, 2006. A special July 4th holiday card will be run on the Tuesday holiday. Post time for all racing days is set for 1:00 p.m. mt.
