Favorite Trick among stallions to die in New Mexico barn fire

A barn fire on Tuesday night, June 6, took the lives of six prominent stallions at the JEH Stallion Station in Hondo, New Mexico.

The 1997 Horse of the Year, Favorite Trick (TB) died in the fire along with Fredricksburg (QH), the 2005 AQHA Champion Aged Stallion, The Down Side (QH), winner of the 2003 Champion of Champions, Saratoga Six (TB), Southern Cartel (QH), and Gone Hollywood (TB).

The fire, which is under investigation, began about 30 minutes after a routine check by the night watchman, according to the JEH Stallion Station website.

The facility is owned by Jim and Marilyn Helzer and R.D. Hubbard. Two other horses also died in the fire.
