Ruidoso Downs, New Mex. (May 27) The crack Thoroughbred sprinter Bang, with two stakes wins in his latest three starts, will be the strong choice to continue his hot streak when he carries highweight of 125 pounds in the $40,000 Fine Loom Handicap on Memorial Day at Ruidoso Downs.

First post time is 1:00 p.m.with free parking and free grandstand admission daily.

Bang, a veteran 6-year-old gelding with 12 wins from 25 career starts, is in peak form with three wins and a close second in his last four starts, including stakes wins against Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred competition.

In his most recent start, against Quarter Horses, he won the 870-yard Special Hank Handicap at The Downs at Albuquerque as the 6-5 favorite. He rallied in the stretch to win by a half length.

Three starts ago, Bang dominated Thoroughbred competition in the 5-furlong Budweiser Handicap at Sunland Park when he led from gate to wire to win by an easy 2-3/4 lengths as the 8-5 favorite.

Curlys Fortune will try to have better fortune in the Fine Loom after horrific starts in his last two races resulted in fourth- and sixth-place finishes. In his two outs before those two troubled efforts, he won an allowance race and was a close second in the Black Gold Casino Handicap at Zia Park.

After the Memorial Day program, racing resumes at Ruidoso Downs on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The card is highlighted by the trials to the Bayer Legend Derby.
