Utah racing resolves Jockey Insurance dilemma

April 13, 2006     E-mail this page to a friend!

Last night, April 12, 2006, the UQHA Racing Board of Directors voted unanimously on a jockey insurance solution. Under the approved plan, all jockeys racing at Laurel Brown Race Track will be covered under the State of Utah Worker’s Compensation program.

This is an absolute win for the jockeys and insures that live horse racing continues uninterrupted in Utah. It was the tireless efforts of the UQHA Racing board that insured the future of racing in Utah. The UQHA Racing board also approved subsidizing the insurance costs in order to minimize the impact on owners, trainers and jockeys.

All jockeys that will participate in the upcoming meet will be required to fill out a W4 before being allowed to ride any horse. At the end of the meet, the jockeys will receive a W2 for earnings.

Please support the continuation of horse racing in Utah with your generous donations. Every dollar donated to UQHA Racing helps insure that racing will have a home in Utah. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express donations can be taken by Amy Hall at (801) 518-1862, or you can send a check to:
