Churchill Downs to host 23rd Running

NTRA, Feb. 6 - Breeders' Cup Limited and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) have released the official event logo for the 23rd Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held on Saturday, November 4, at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

The 2006 official Breeders' Cup event logo, created by New York-based Phoenix Design Works, features a rendition of the world renowned Twin Spires of Churchill Downs placed inside a shield with a green background. The image is bordered in bronze and black with the words “World Championships” at the top and with the traditional Breeders' Cup logo placed below the words “Churchill Downs 2006” at the bottom.

“The 2006 event logo combines the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs, one of the great signature elements in sports, with the greatest international day of Thoroughbred racing,” said Damon Thayer, vice president of Breeders' Cup Event Management. “We look forward to displaying the logo widely throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and to our international outlets.”

The event logo will appear in Breeders' Cup advertising, promotions and on officially licensed clothing and merchandise sold across the country and overseas. The logo will also appear on the NTRA Web site and be utilized by North American and other international media organizations to complement coverage of the World Championships.

High-resolution Breeders' Cup World Championships Event Logos are also available at www.ntra.com/logos.The 2006 Breeders' Cup, which will be televised live on ESPN, consists of eight championship races with purses and awards totaling $14 million.

This will be the sixth time that Churchill Downs will host the Breeders Cup, having previously held it in 1988, 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2000. The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing popularity of horseracing and improving economic conditions for industry participants.

The NTRA and Breeders' Cup Limited administer the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, Thoroughbred racing's year-end Championships consisting of eight races and $14 million in purses and awards and the Breeders' Cup Stakes Program.
