Los Alamitos Race Course, Cypress, CA - The Road to the Champion of Champions gets underway on Saturday, February 4, with a pair of 400-yard trials to the Los Alamitos Winter Championship featuring last year's winner Whosleavingwho, PCQHRA champion 3-year-old gelding Lds Dash For Dylan and Champion of Champions runner-up Like Frankie And Me. The trials are set for races 9 and 10 on the card.

Seventeen older stars will compete in the trials with the horses with the 10 fastest clockings returning for the Grade 1 Winter Championship final on Saturday, February 25. The winner of the Winter Championship will earn the first automatic starting berth to the Champion of Champions.

The great Whosleavingwho, who scored an easy 1/2 length win in last year's Winter Championship, will make his 8-year-old debut in the second trial. If Jim Geiler and Kim Kessinger's Whosleavingwho goes on to win the Winter Championship, he will earn a record-tying fifth consecutive berth in the Champion of Champions. He finished sixth in last year's running. Refrigerator is the only horse to race in the Champion of Champions five times.

Donna King's LDS Dash For Dylan and Lester Family Racing's Apollos Favorite, the fourth and fifth place finishers in the Champion of Champions, and track record holder Quality Corona, will also race in the second trial.

Francisco Gonsalez's talented Like Frankie And Me will have to deal with First Down Dash Handicap winner Jesse James Jr, last year's Winter Derby runner-up Gulfstream Five, and multiple stakes winner Gold Medal Jess in the first trial. Lawrence Boyd's Moose La Jolla is the new face in this trial after winning two of 13 starts, mostly while racing in New Mexico. Oscar Carrete saddles him.

NO RACING ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Fans are reminded that there'll be no live night racing on Super Bowl Sunday at Los Alamitos. Racing will resume on Thursday, February 9.
