Auburn, WA--Emerald Downs has announced the stakes race schedule for the 2006 live meet commencing on April 21. Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2006, the Emerald Downs stakes schedule reflects the positive growth at the Auburn, Washington track.

Thirty-six stakes are on offer worth $2,205,000, a 3 percent increase over the previous year. Highlighting the schedule is 71st running of the Grade 3 Longacres Mile on August 20, Washington Cup IV on Sunday, September 16, and last year's successful addition Mile Preview Day on July 30 featuring the two most important local preps for the Longacres Mile: the Governor's Handicap and the Mt. Rainier Breeders' Cup.

Stakes races seeing an increase in 2006 are elements of the Northwest Racing Series and include the Barbara Shinpoch Stakes as a championship event for two year-old fillies at $100,000.

"The growth in funding from the Northwest Racing Series over the past two years not only indicates growing interest with participating in the Series but is also representative of the growing interest in racing at Emerald Downs," said Paul Ryneveld, Director of Racing. "Both are positive trends that bode well for increasing our horse population, and, if stall applications received so far are a useful barometer, we are in for an outstanding 10th anniversary season."

Emerald Downs has also released a new anniversary logo to commemorate this milestone year in the track's history. The 2006 live racing season begins on Friday, April 21 and continues for 91 days through Sunday, October 1.
