Dual classic winner Afleet Alex will stand the 2006 season at Gainesway Farm in Lexington. His stud fee will be $40,000 per live foal. He was raced by Cash Is King Stables.

Although the horse’s connections had hoped the winner of this year’s Preakness and Belmont Stakes would race as a four-year-old, a condylar fracture of his left front leg, which was observed in July, finally precipitated the move to retire the son of Northern Afleet. The horse retires with $2,765,800 in earnings and eight wins in 12 starts, with 2 seconds and a third.

Afleet Alex rocked the horse racing world when he won the Belmont Stakes by seven lengths after nearly being knocked to his knees by Scrappy T in the turn for home.
