The opening of Oklahoma’s first Racino is scheduled to take place Monday, October 24 at Blue Ribbon Downs. A combination of racetrack and casino, racinos were approved by voters at three of Oklahoma’s horseracing tracks just this year.

The Choctaw Nation is the owner of the racino at Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw. Another racino is planned at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, and the Cherokee Nation has purchased Will Rogers Downs in Claremore and is working to get a racino approved at that site.

Gambling operations at the racinos are under the jurisdiction of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission. It is hoped electronic gaming will boost the horseracing industry, as a portion of gaming proceeds will be designated for purses and other racing expenses.
