The 59th season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing begins at Portland Meadows on Saturday, October 22 with a 12:35 p.m. post time.

The 2005-2006 live racing season consists of 80 days of racing on tap through May 7, Kentucky Derby Day, when Portland Meadows concludes it's meet with a Run for the Roses celebration equal to the expectations of a town known as The City of Roses.

Race days will be Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoon with a new first post of 12:35 p.m. for all three days.

Expected to return to the Delta Park oval are leading conditioners Jonathan Nance and Jim Feragson. Their battle for leading trainer last season came down to the final weekend when Nance, under strong late urging, found more and took command in the final strides leading to the wire. Fergason is sure to fight this meet to regain his title.

In the riding colony, leading jockeys Javier Ortega, Twyla Beckner and Tim Neal are anticipated returnees. Ortega showed up a month into last year's meet and ultimately ran off with the riding title.
