Ada County and Capitol Racing agreement guarantees five more years

October 11, Boise - Live and simulcast horse racing will continue at Les Bois Park at Expo Idaho for another five years under an agreement signed today by the Board of Ada County Commissioners and Capitol Racing. The new five-year agreement, which takes effect immediately, allows for a continuation of simulcasting at Les Bois Park Turf Club as well as live horse racing beginning in late spring 2006. Food and beverage service, including alcohol sales, will be offered at Les Bois Park.

"We're elated that we can continue Idaho's tradition of live horse racing with one of the top race operators in the nation," Ada County Commission Chairman Rick Yzaguirre said. "This has been a long process and we appreciate the patience of the horse racing industry and the public. We are confident in the expertise and commitment demonstrated by Capitol and this new agreement will benefit live racing for many years to come."

The new five-year agreement was signed during a ceremony at the Ada County Courthouse this afternoon. The agreement calls for Capitol Racing to pay Ada County $1.5 million over the next five years. Under the new agreement, Capitol will pay a minimum of $200,000 annually to lease the facility.

In addition, a rent increase has been built in. If one percent (1%) of the total handle exceeds the amount of rent paid for that year, Capitol will pay the county the difference between one percent (1%) of the total handle and the amount paid in rent that year.

Capitol has already begun work to improve the track at Les Bois this past year and the new lease allows for credit on those improvements and expenditures. Further improvements to the facility will be shared by the county and Capitol to include improved handicapped access to the facility, restoring the infield, and fixing code violations. The new agreement runs through September 30, 2010.
