SHAKOPEE, MN -- Canterbury Park’s sixth annual October-Fest Handicapping Tournament on Saturday, October 8th, will once again qualify three players to the $500,000 Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship to be held at Bally’s Las Vegas in January 2006.

The one-day tournament format requires entrants to make ten $10 Win/Place wagers on ten races of choice, selecting from Canterbury’s extensive simulcast line-up. This annual event calls for a $100 entry fee and $200 ‘live’ bankroll that will be used for the ten contest wagers. No cap limits are placed on the wagers so entrants receive the actual mutuel payoff for each wager. Each player’s ending bankroll is returned at the conclusion of the contest.

Last year’s October-Fest was won by Dick Mueller of White Bear Lake, Minnesota with an $845 final bankroll. Finishing second was Mayer Kanter of Sioux City, Iowa with $781; and third was Jeff Jolley of Irvine, California with $720. All three players are expected to enter again on October 8th.

Noel Michaels, author of the recently revised Handicapping Contest Handbook, will be at Canterbury on October 8th for a book signing from 11am to noon in the tournament headquarters on clubhouse level. All October-Fest entrants will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
