118 talented athletes left the gates at Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls this past weekend, vying for about $20,000 in purse monies. The local weekend meet, which began July 16, continues through July 31. Sandy Downs will host Idaho Cup races the final weekend of the meet since racing has remained dark this season at Les Bois Park in Boise..

The lady fockeys jumped out of their TV Début with Loecca Margrave winning the first Saturday race, exhibiting major class with riding skills and enhancing her position of becoming the Leading Rider for the Sandy Downs Race Meet!

Di, the "Rookie”, riding the seventh pari-mutuel race of her life after receiving her jockey license the previous Saturday, rode the same horse that she rode the previous week to a 5-1/2 length victory in Saturday's second race of the day.

This coming Saturday, July 30, offers over $50,00.00 in purse monies for 71 competitive athletes and features the Idaho Quarter Horse Association-sponsored Idaho Cup Futurity and Derby races, in addition to two of Idaho Thoroughbred Association-sponsored stakes races.

Please join us at the races this Saturday and Sunday -Saturday encompasses nine exciting races!!

A fun aspect of last week’s show was the experience of listening to the young man that drives the water truck for Capitol Racing singing the National Anthem, while "Spud", the California Track Legend, held the Flag. It was learned after the fact that the young man has traveled with major choirs internationally, but is back in Idaho because this is home. What a voice and talent!
