Douglas, WY – Spear Cross Productions, LLC, sale managers are reminding consignors that July 17 is the deadline for consignments to the Speed Horse Sale held during the Fizz Bomb Barrel Classic September 17 in Gillette, Wyoming.

The sale, to be called by auctioneer Allen Odden of South Dakota, will begin at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening after a 6:00 p.m. preview. Sponsored by the Wyoming All Breeds Racing Association (WABRA), last year’s sale drew consignments from seven states and one Canadian province. Now in its third year, the sale was the dream of well-known northeast Wyoming horseman and banker, Ray Wardell, who died not long after the inaugural sale.

“Last year’s sale saw a dramatic increase in prices over the previous year, with competitive bidding on nearly every horse,” said Bob Daniels, one of the sale organizers. “The increasing number of horses, and the quality, are both tributes to Ray’s vision.”

Daniels is a member of the WABRA, as well as serving on the Wyoming Racing Commission. “Team ropers, barrel racers, chariot racers, cowboy polo players, it doesn’t matter what you do horseback,” he said. “If you want to know going in that you have a horse under you that will be quick and competitive, this sale is the place to start. The bloodlines offered at this sale represent the best in barrel race sires, as well as race sires in general. If you compete in a timed event, this sale is the right starting place for finding world class-quality competition horses.”

Last year’s sale found eager bidders vying for finished barrel horses, yearlings and weanlings, and well-started young horses. Only the broodmare market appeared soft, perhaps a reflection of the grass shortage in many areas last year.

“We are expecting another great sale,” said Lee Fields of Spear Cross Productions. “Strong cattle prices, rains at the right times this spring, and a great grass year should bode well for the Speed Horse Sale.”

Many of the horses consigned last year were eligible for futurities, such as the Bold Heart, Future Fortunes, Sunrise, and Five State Barrel Futurities and race futurities like the Diamond Classic and MBNA Racing Challenge, as well as other stallion incentive programs.
