The chase is on for $1.14 million Ed Burke (G1) on June 25

Los Alamitos Racecourse, June 4--Mike Abraham and Leslie and Pierre Amestoy’s Identity Theft posted the fastest qualifying time to the $1.14 million Ed Burke Million Futurity on Saturday at Los Alamitos. A total of 15 trials were contested for the 350-yard Ed Burke.

Wave Carver was the second fastest qualifier and one of five Ed Burke finalists saddled by three-time champion trainer Paul Jones. The conditioner also won eight of the 15 races, setting an all-time single night record at Los Alamitos. The trainer won seven of the final 10 trials – including five in a row.

The Ed Burke final will also feature an encounter between full-brothers One Corona and Two Corona Special. The colts were sired by Strawfly Special and out of the champion millionaire Corona Cash. Two Corona Special is one of three Kindergarten Futurity finalists that returned to qualify to the Ed Burke.

Higher Fire, third in the Kindergarten Futurity, and Finding Nemo also ran in the Kindergarten. By the way, Identity Theft ran against Leading Spirit, the star in the Ruidoso Futurity trials, in the West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park on April 3.

Strawfly Special had two in full-brothers One Corona and Two Corona Special. Corona Cartel (Corona Crystal) and Walk Thru Fire (Higher Fire) each had one.
