Golden Hunt captures $50,000 Presidentís Handicap at Stampede Park

Montana based trainer Greg Tracy brought home the winning entry in the $50,000 Presidentís Handicap on May 7 at Stampede Park in Calgary, Canada when Golden Hunt carried Real Simard to a comfortable win by 2-1/2 lengths. Golden Hunt broke second from the 7-hole and was in the lead by the quarter call, setting the pace and drawing clear in the stretch to win $31,500 of the total purse ($25,367 U.S.).

The chestnut gelding by Gold Alert out of Insearchofgold, by Heart, is owned by Stan Ryan and was bred by John Franks in Florida. He finished the 6 furlong course in 1:10.40 and paid $7.20 to win. The Tracy-Ryan combination also brought home the third place finisher in the race.

In second was Blackjack Willy ridden by Perry Winters for owner Dave Kapchinsky and Myron Yurko and trained by Rick Hedge. Second was worth $10,000 Canadian. Finishing third was the Tracy trained and Ryan owned Dakota Duke to earn $5,000 Canadian. In fourth was Bearbiscuit, owned by Bear Stables, Ltd. Fifth was another Tracy entry, this one owned by Lloyd DeBruycker and named Smudgeledo.
Notis Otis, Magic for Six, and Tiger King completed the field.

Tracy was the winning trainer in a $12,808 claiming race the day before, May 6, with Alarmingly Charming, a gelded son of Paranoide out of Cottonís Butterfly owned and bred by Peggy Steffes.
