Stakes roundup for State Fair Race Meet in Great Falls

Horse racing at the Montana State Fair Race Meet in Great Falls begins Monday, July 4 following the closing festivities of Explore! The Big Sky, the Lewis and Clark Signature Event held in Great Falls, Fort Benton, and surrounding areas.

Thoroughbreds can compete in the Halftime Treasure State Futurity over 5 furlongs with trials July 10 and finals July 30 for an estimated purse of $10,000. The Prospector Lewis & Clark Derby will be contested over 7 furlongs for an estimated purse of $10,000 with trials July 17 and finals July 31. The Big Sky Handicap will run July 31 over a mile and 70 yards for an estimated purse of $8,000. Nominations for this race are the exception, with first payments due July 15.

The State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity will be contested over 300 yards with trials July 9 and finals July 30 for an estimated purse of $25,000. The State Fair Quarter Horse Derby will be contested over 300 yards with trials July 10 and finals July 31 for an estimated purse of $10,000.

Paint Horses can compete in the State Fair Paint Horse Futurity over 300 yards for an estimated purse of $12,000. Trials are July 4 with the finals on July 23. The State Fair Paint Horse Derby will also be contested over 300 yards for an estimated $10,000 purse. Trials are July 10 with finals on July 24.

The State Fair Race meet holds 10 live days of horse racing on weekends through July 31. The final weekend of racing is held during the State Fair and includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday racing.
