Spring brings live racing action to Intermountain, Northwest, upper Midwest racetracks

Tune up the car or truck: it's time to hit the live meets in TRJ territory!

Ft. Pierre Horse Racing in South Dakota opens this weekend for two days of racing, with eight races on Saturday, April 29, and six races—including the Fort Pierre/AQHA Bonus Challenge— on Sunday, April 30. Eleven of the 14 races over the weekend are for Thoroughbreds.

Racing opened last weekend and continues this weekend at the Sun Downs meeting in Kennewick, Washington.

Hastings Park in Vancouver, B.C. also opened last weekend. The track welcomes horsemen and fans through late October. Two $50,000 British Columbia Cup races are on tap for Sunday, April 30: the Dogwood Handicap for 3-year-old BC-bred fillies and the Stellar's Jay Handicap for 3YO BC-bred colts and geldings.

At Prairie Meadows in Iowa, the Thoroughbred meet opened on Thursday. The T-breds run through mid-August, followed by Quarter Horses in a a 26-day meet.

Washington's Emerald Downs has been rolling since early April and continues weekends through mid-September. In Nebraska, Fonner Park races over the next two weekends to complete its season.
