Closing weekends at GF, Wyo offer big cards, big fields

The State Fair Race Meet in Great Falls, Montana, and Wyoming Downs in Evanston, Wyoming, close out their 2016 seasons this weekend, Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31, full cards and full gates.

Twenty-four races are on tap at Great Falls, 12 each day. Feature races include the $5,200 Quarter Horse Juvenile Championship and the $9,600 State Fair/AQHA Bonus Challenge on Saturday; and the $5,400 Mixed Breed Sprint Championship and the $9,600 Great Falls Turf Club Stakes on Sunday.

Horsemen stuffed the entry box both days for spots in the 8-horse gate. 185 horses are entered in the 24 races, with 10 full gates on Saturday and nine full gates on Sunday.

Not to be outdone, Wyoming Downs also offers some great racing this weekend. 17 races over the weekend include the $22,400 Wyoming-bred Derby on Saturday and the $22,100 Wyoming-bred Futurity and $16,700 Wyoming-bred Maturity on Sunday.

Wyoming Downs boasts 10 full, 10-horse fields, five each day, over the weekend, with 152 horses taking the 170 available slots.
