The Breeders’ Cup gets underway on Friday, October 30, at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky, beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). Friday’s four races (race #6-9) are part of a 10-race card that begins at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Nine Breeders Cup races are scheduled for Saturday, October 31 as part of a 12-race card that gets underway at 11:00 a.m. ET. The first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday is at approximately 12:05 p.m. ET.

We’re following 14 TRJ—The Racing Journal-territory horses this year.

Mr. Z tries the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, Friday’s seventh race (approximate post time 4:10 Eastern Time). Mr. Z ran at Los Alamitos Race Course (in TRJ territory) on December 28, 2014, in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity, finishing third, only a head back of winner Dortmund.

Tapiture also races in the Dirt Mile. He invaded TRJ territory just this year, finishing second-to-last in the Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap at Prairie Meadows on June 27.

Three entrants to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff—Friday’s race #9, 5:35 p.m. ET—raced at Los Alamitos:

My Sweet Addiction finished third in a $62,500 Optional Claimer on September 14, 2014, as the 6-to-5 favorite.

Yahilwa ran last in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes on December 6, 2014.

Warren’s Veneda beat Yahilwa in that edition of the Bayakoa, finishing second, just a head back of winner Tiz Midnight. She returned to Los Alamitos this year, running fourth in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes on July 11.

On Saturday, nine horses that raced in TRJ territory hit the Keeneland surfaces.

Land Over Sea began her career at Los Alamitos, finishing second in her Maiden debut on July 12, 2015. She would go on break her maiden in her next start, at Del Mar, as the odds-on favorite. Land Over Sea has the rail in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (race #3 on Saturday, 12:05 p.m. ET).

Room For Me interrupted her Del Mar stint with a trip to Los Alamitos on September 20, 2014, finishing second-to-last in a $40,000 Optional Claimer. She races in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, Saturday’s 5th race, at 1:25 p.m. ET.

Super Majesty also goes in the Filly and Mare Sprint. She won at Los Alamitos this year as the 1-to-2 favorite in a $40,000 Optional Claimer on July 5.

Sharla Rae Has won two races in two starts at Los Alamitos, breaking her maiden in her career debut on July 13, 2014, and then taking the Barretts Debutante two months later, on September 13. She’s since become a Grade 1 mainstay, and races in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf on Saturday (race #6, 2:10 p.m. ET).

Masochistic finished second in the Los Alamitos Mile on September 6, 2014, at even odds. He’s never raced that far again, and goes in Saturday’s race #7—the Breeders’ Cup Sprint—at 2:50 p.m. ET.

Alsvid has more races in TRJ territory—six— than any other Breeders’ Cup entrant. He’s 4-0-0 from six starts at Prairie Meadows since 2012, winning three stakes in the process—The Golden Circle and Prairie Mile in 2012 and the Iowa Sprint Handicap in 2014. Alsvid joins Masochistic in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

Gentlemen’s Bet is also entered in the Sprint, but as an “also eligible,” he needs a scratch from the main field. Gentlemen’s Bet won the Iowa Sprint Handicap in 2013.

Swipe beat Ralis in this year’s Summer Juvenile Championship at Los Alamitos on July 12. The pair find each other again, this time in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (race #9, 4:10 p.m. ET).
