A full gate is expected for the $97,312 Western States Breeders Futurity at Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on Sunday, September 6, one of 11 stakes races scheduled over the weekend.

The rich Western States Breeders Futurity is open to Quarter Horses bred in TRJ—The Racing Journal territory: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming. 42 raced in the trials on August 21 to produce the field of 10.

Nine of the finalists are Utah-breds, with the other bred in Idaho. Birrell Farmsís Bf Fooserageous has been installed as the 5-to-2 morning-line favorite, despite being upset as the 3-to-5 favorite by The Five Barkersís Five Bar Lucky in the fifth and final trial race. Five Bar Lucky, who, as the fifth-favorite paid $28.60 for a $2 win ticket, is listed at 7-to-2 on the morning line.

The pair were the fastest and second-fastest qualifiers. Including these two, six of the 10 finalists are trained by Ron Moosman or son Riley Moosman.
