LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA…. Jockey Chris Russell suffered a deep laceration on his right knee following a spill in the 5th race on Friday night. Russell needed stitches to repair the cut and the injury is expected to keep him out of action for approximately two weeks according to his agent, Derrick Lawson. The agent credited the safety rail at Los Alamitos for working perfectly.

“The one thing that I have to say about the whole incident is that safety rail worked great,” Lawson said. “Chris’ horse (The Name Game) hit the inside rail and that that sent Chris flying. Chris skimmed right along the safety rail on his way down but that’s exactly how the safety rail is supposed to work. The safety rail did its job and it really protected my jockey.”
