Willie Marconi takes his shot

The Jorge Escalera-owned and -trained Willie Mosconi faces a well-balanced field in the $75,000 Zoetis Starter Allowance Challenge Championship over 350 yards

For horses who have raced for a $5,000 claiming tag, the Zoetis Starter Allowance Challenge Championship represents the “working class” horses who fill the majority of races held in American Quarter Horse racing.

Willie Mosconi (Ivory James-Quik Jolla by Streakin La Jolla) comes off an impressive win in the Zoetis Prairie Meadows Starter Allowance. The gelding beat the gate from the inside post position and went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths.

In his previous start, Willie Mosconi won the $19,000 Rocky Heinz Stakes at Fair Meadows.

Willie Mosconi was claimed for $5,000 at Will Rogers Downs in September 2013 and ran for a $5,000 tag as recently as in April at Remington Park.

Desidero Neva’s Im Beau Brown (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Special Smoothie by This Snow Is Royal) raced to a third-place finish in the $20,000 Rocky Mountain Bonus Challenge at Arapahoe Park in his latest start. The Gustavo Rios-trained gelding won the $33,750 Zoetis Remington Park Starter Allowance at 22-1 odds back in May.

Kevin Hogan and Bob McClure’s Cash N FDD Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Cash Cartel by Corona Cartel) is on a roll and looking for his third-straight win. The gelding won the $20,790 Zoetis Sam Houston Starter Allowance two starts ago as the 3-5 choice and then went to Retama Park to win a starter-handicap by one-half length as the 13-10 favorite.
