The gates at Los Alamitos are already open this morning, Belmont Day Saturday, when hometown hero California Chrome looks to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, the homebred California Chrome could become the first California-bred Triple Crown winner and only the 12th in Thoroughbred racing history. California Chrome trained at Los Alamitos prior to traveling to Louisville to win the Kentucky Derby.

California Chrome is trained by Los Alamitos-based Art Sherman and will be ridden by Victor Espinoza. The son of Lucky Pulpit worked four furlongs in a sharp :47.69 Saturday under regular rider Victor Espinoza, and galloped out monstrously. He went :59.93 for five furlongs, 1:12.95 for six, and 1:26.28 for seven over the Belmont oval.

The first 3,500 fans at Los Alamitos will receive a commemorative admission ticket and "Love Chrome" button on Saturday. The Los Alamitos Gift Shop will also feature limited edition Home of The Chrome items and The Vessels Club will have on display a beautiful ice sculpture of California Chrome. The popular California Chrome cocktail will be served in the Vessels Club in a limited edition glass. The Vessels Club will offer a lunch buffet for $49.95 on Belmont Day.
