Laurel Brown cancels, Gem County is a "go"

Today's scheduled race card at Laurel Brown Racetrack has been cancelled because of recent and impending rainstorms.

It's been raining all week all over the Intermountain west, and today's forecast at the South Jordan, Utah, track is for a high of only 50 with a 90% chance of more rain.

The 14-race program has been rescheduled for May 3, with a 1:00 p.m. first post.

The storms have not deterred racing official in Emmett, Idaho, however, where a seven-race, 51-horse card will go with purses of more than $25,000. Weathermen have predicted a high of 60 with some sun poking through.

Over the past two decades, Gem County has only cancelled one day of racing because of weather.
