Two of the fastest sprinters on the grounds, L.A. Weekend and Absolutely Cool, renew their rivalry in Saturday's $35,000 Coyote Handicap. The co-feature is the $35,000 Mesa Handicap.

Both races drew fields of six, both go 6˝ furlongs. The Coyote is for 3-year-olds and older, the Mesa for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older.

Absolutely Cool finally exacted revenge for four previous defeats at the hands of L.A. Weekend in winning the $75,000 Phoenix Gold Cup on February 15. Both Absolutely Cool, trained by Valorie Lund, and L.A. Weekend, conditioned by Robertino Diodoro, have turned in three credible works since the Gold Cup—each one a bullet work.

Absolutely Cool has won seven of 26 efforts for $205,103, while L.A. Weekend has captured 10 of 21 for $319,040.

The Mesa Handicap seems a wide-open affair with four of the six entrants sporting last-out victories. Ronda Rocks and Tribal Gal are coming off stakes wins in the Sun City and Phoenix Handicaps respectively. Chumash and Fadeintoinfinity are coming off allowance wins.
