Nine to race in Barbra B Handicap on Sunday

A talented field of nine older sprinters will be in action at the classic Quarter Horse distance of 440 yards in the $20,000 Barbra B Handicap on Sunday, January 12, at Los Alamitos.

Owned by Country Music superstar and talented actor Lyle Lovett, Stray Cat will head the field while looking for his second 440-yard victory at Los Alamitos in three starts at Los Alamitos. A son of the great Thoroughbred sire Storm Cat, Stray Cat won the Red Cell Oklahoma Distance Challenge at Remington Park last year and flashed good early speed before settling for sixth place in the Grade $100,000 Red Cell Championship at 870 yards on November 9. Ramon Sanchez will ride Stray Cat for trainer Paul Jones.

Jones will also saddle Salvador Pimientaís Bingo in the Barbra B. The son of Tres Seis is a multiple major stakes finalist at Los Alamitos with a resume that includes appearances in the Grade Golden State Million Futurity in 2012 and Grade 1 Southern California Derby last year. Balgo Racing Teamís Gold Flames On Fire also competed in the 2012 Golden State Million and in last yearís Los Alamitos Winter Derby. The talented gelding by Walk Thru Fire has hit the board seven times in his career, but heís looking for his first win since 2012. Raul Valenzuela will pilot for trainer Guillermo Morales.

Ed Allredís Once Over returns to California after making a stakes appearance at Zia Park. He ran second in the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap in his last start here. Pathological Liar, winner of the 870-yard Gold Rush Derby in 2011 and a 440-yard stakes participant last season, Thrifty, Dynasty Red, Ric Oh Shay and Follow The Dream will complete the field.
