Los Alamitos Race Course received approval on Monday, January 6, from the California Horse Racing Board to cancel its scheduled live racing programs on Friday, January 17, through Sunday, January 19, in order to complete the Orange County track’s expansion to a one-mile oval. This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen weather conditions.

In addition, Los Alamitos will not offer the Australia racing signal during the weekend of January 17-19. Live night racing will resume at Alamitos on Friday, January 25, with that weekend’s action featuring trials to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship. The above approval does not affect Los Alamitos’ daytime simulcasting of Santa Anita, Golden Gate, or the out-of-state Thoroughbred signals. Los Alamitos will remain open for simulcasting of the Watch & Wager Harness racing night signal from Cal Expo in Sacramento on January 17 and January 18.

Led by the highly respected track surface consultant Dennis Moore, the expansion of the Los Alamitos track from a 5/8th oval to a mile track is moving along smoothly and on schedule to open for training in the final week of January. The posts for the inner rail are currently being installed and the material for the racing surface is being moved to the expansion site.
