Led by Les Bois Park/Emerald Downs Challenge qualifier Vodka With Ice winning the Grade 1, $350,000 Bank of America Racing Challenge Championship, the quality contingent of Intermountain and TRJ—The Racing Journal territory runners dominated the AQHA Challenge Championships at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday night, November 9.

Vodka With Ice, who finished seventh two years ago in this event, carried a blazing start under jockey Francisco Rubio all the way to the finish over a fast-closing Cold Cash 123 at odds of 17-to-1 for trainer Pablo Rabasa and owner Gerardo Prado. Vodka With Ice qualified for this prestigious race by winning the $70,200 Emerald Downs Championship Challenge on September 1. Vodka With Ice is the first qualifier from the fledgling Quarter Horse program at Emerald Downs to win an AQHA Challenge race.

Vodka With Ice shares the double-headline with Jr Dynasty Mountain, who won the Grade 2, $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship after qualifying for the race at Les Bois Park on July 6. Jr Dynasty Mountain was ridden by Francisco Rubio for Eastern Idaho connections, owner J R Stables and trainer Ryan Hanson.

Did I say “double-headline”? I meant triple headline: another Les Bois Park qualifier, Honoroso, won the $100,000 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship, for owners Barney Gardner and RTM Stables at odds of 6-to-1.
