Thoroughbred Hall of Fame Trainer Jack Van Berg will be at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday, November 9, 2013, to promote and sign his new book, "JACK, From Grit to Glory, A Lifetime of Mentoring, Dedication and Perseverance" a biography written by Chris Kotulak. Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to injured Los Alamitos jockey Gregorio Arriaga. The book signing will take place in the main lobby of the grandstand entrance starting at 5:00 p.m.

Jack Van Berg was the first trainer in North America to reach 5,000 wins and currently is ranked fourth in wins with 6,417 victories. Van Berg's greatest runner was Alysheba, who won the 1987 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Alysheba retired as the leading North American money earner of all-time ($6,679, 242). The book is filled with many anecdotal recollections from a variety of horsemen and is a chronological account of the tremendous hardships and accomplishments Jack faced in his career and personal life. Van Berg was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1985. Van Berg’s father, Marion H. Van Berg, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1970.
