Los Alamitos Race Course - Catchmeinyourdreams, the champion aged gelding each of the last two years, and 2002 Co-World Champion Whosleavingwho are two of the 24 standouts that will be in action in the trials to the $251,200 Los Alamitos Winter Championship on Saturday night, February 6. The horses with the 10 fastest times will return here on February 26 for the Grade 1 final, with the winner earning an automatic starting berth to the $500,000 Champion of Champions in December.

Three trials are on tap with each heat as tough as the next. Chad Richards’ Brookstone Bay, who ran fifth in last year’s Champion of Champions, will headline the first trial against a field that includes the red-hot Brubeck and overnight stakes winner Apollos Favorite. Planet Holland, a winner of more than $500,000 is in the second trial along with Golden State Derby runner-up Jesse James Jr, track record holder Well I Never, and last year’s Winter Championship runner-up Meteoric.

The final heat will include Catchmeinyourdreams, who is a three-time Grade 1 winner, and 2003 Winter Championship winner Whosleavingwho. The latter paid a $15,000 supplemental fee to be eligible to this race, as did Bayer Legend Challenge winner A New Hero. Golden State Derby winner Not For Long is also in this race.
The Winter Championship is the first of eight races offering an automatic berth to the $500,000 Champion of Champions. The other races are: Vessels Maturity, Go Man Go Handicap, Los Alamitos Super Derby, Los Alamitos Invitational Championship, Refrigerator Handicap, All American Derby and MBNA America Challenge Championship.
