HELP VOTE YES ON HOUSE BILL 2613 FOR THE BENEFIT OF HORSE RACING IN OREGON

As an owner and/or breeder of an Oregon-bred Thoroughbred or someone interested in the future of horse racing in Oregon, we ask you to contact your Representative and urge them to vote YES on Oregon House Bill 2613 (see complete Bill below).

The bill was sponsored by Representative Brian Clem at the request of Portland Meadows, Oregon Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, Oregon Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Association and Oregon Quarter Horse Racing Association. It was originally presented to the House in early January 2013.

This is the bill to allow "instant racing" at Portland Meadows. It provides that forms of live or historical racing possibly resulting in wagering pool being carried forward to future race are forms of mutuel wagering.

The bill will be voted on by the full House next week. We need your help in contacting your Representative to vote "YES" on House Bill 2613!

Passing of this bill could provide an ecomic boost to Portland Meadows' revenue. The slot machine-like devices let gamblers bet on virtual races, using actual results from past contests. "These bills are of the utmost importance to solidifying the future of racing in Oregon," wrote Portland Meadows General Manager Will Alempijevic in an e-mail.

It is important the the House Representatives be reminded that Portland Meadows has an economic impact of over $200 million in the state of Oregon. And also that our Thoroughbred owners and breeders reside in 85% of the counties in Oregon. They contribute to their local economies and provide jobs.
