Hall of Famer Gary Stevens, who began his riding career at Les Bois Park, announced this morning that he will come out of retirement to ride Jebrica, winner this year of the Emerald Downs Derby and the BC Premiers Stakes, in Santa Anita Park's sixth race on Sunday, January 7.

"I'm not coming back to be an every-day-five-mounts-a-day rider," Stevens said in a press conference at Santa Anita this morning, noting also that he won't be taking any "25 claimers."

"I'm want to help develop some young horses for some trainers that I've been working with," Stevens continued. "There are some horses I've been riding in the mornings that I'm excited about, but I'm not going to name them . . . that would be bad luck."

Stevens plans to continue his TV broadcast career during the comeback. "I'll still do the Triple Crown races," he said.

As for Sunday's race, "It's a mile on the turf. It's supposed to rain, but if they take it off the turf, Jebrica will still run."

Posttime for the race is approximately 3:05 p.m. Pacific Time.
