Jockeys helping jockeys

On Champion of Champions night, December 15, about an hour before posttime, a group of talented riders will be on hand at Los Alamitos Race Course to sign their Fine Art Quarter Horse Jockey Trading Cards—a collectable series first created in 2009 by artist Ginny Harding to generate funds for injured riders.

Three different images are introduced each year and then signed by the jockey’s themselves. This year, two legends—retired champion riders Charlie Smith and Bobby Adair—join Cold Cash 123’s regular pilot, Roy Baldillez as the subjects of the 2012 edition of the cards. These three jockeys will be on hand signing their cards along with some of the riders featured on past year’s cards, including G.R. Carter, Cody Jensen, and Danny Cardoza.

Other featured riders have signed cards available for purchase at the event. Fellow riders and their families that have been aided in the past three years since the creation and sale of the cards include Mark Villa, Tad Leggett, and Jacky Martin. So far, there are 12 cards in the collection, and with only 1,000 of each image printed—once sold out, they will never be reprinted.

If you can’t attend, you can still purchase cards by contacting Ginny Harding at (509) 582-7924 or (509) 430-5303.

The cards come in a protective vinyl sleeve and are $5.00 each, or a set of three for $10, with all proceeds going directly to help injured riders.
